As president and chief executive officer, David N. Smith has positioned Silex Technology America Inc. (STA) as the premier provider of solutions for product networking. Since joining the parent company in 2001 and establishing STA in 2002, Smith has provided the strategic direction for all U.S. operations. He has invested aggressively in strengthening technology innovations, growing the Silex sales organization and expanding engineering and marketing initiatives in the United States. From April 2008 through March 2010, he was appointed president and chief operating officer of the parent company in Japan to further drive Silex’s global strategy in connectivity solutions. In response to the economic downturn of 2009 his efforts have been focused on the international business in the US and EU while continuing to serve as COO of the parent company. He also serves as the general manager for the European company, Silex Technology Europe GmbH.
Before Silex, Smith served as the general manager of both the Pen Cabling and ASP network divisions of Cables To Go and reported to the CEO. Before Cables To Go, he steered Aydin Corp., known as Aydin Displays, as vice president of sales for multiple products, including color CRTs, flat panels, graphics boards, and telemetry products. Smith was responsible for global revenue with an emphasis on the US and European markets. At McFadden Sales Inc., he served as the vice president of the OEM division and sales manager. He was responsible for sales to OEM customers and sold a broad range of products such as semiconductors, electronic microcontroller systems and electromechanical parts as a manufacturer’s representative.
He holds a bachelor’s of science degree in ceramic engineering from New York State College of Ceramics from Alfred University. Smith and his wife, Cynthia, reside in Sandy, Utah. They have two daughters.
