Silex Technology Serial Device Servers Connect RS-232 Devices to Networks
New SD-300 and SD-310AN Products Connect Medical and Industrial Devices to Wired or Dual-Band Wireless Networks
SANTA ANA, Calif., June 16, 2015 – Silex Technology America, Inc., today announced SD-300 and SD-310AN, new Ethernet and dual-band device servers for connecting devices equipped with RS-232 serial ports to wired and wireless networks.
The devices bring secure, robust wired or wireless network capability to industrial automation, building automation, medical devices, security access and control, point of sale devices, LED signs, bar code/label and other specialty printers, or virtually any other device with a serial port.
“Silex is introducing field-proven, robust, and enterprise-secure mobile technology into this new line of serial device servers,” said John Halloran, Device Networking Product Manager at Silex America. “We are excited that with them, businesses now can add highly reliable and secure wired and wireless networking to their serial devices.”
The SD-300 includes a 10/100 auto-sensing Ethernet connection to the network, and a nine pin RS-232 serial connection to the device. The SD-310AN also adds a dual band wireless connection to an enterprise class wireless network. Both products allow flexibility, as users can place the serial device anywhere on the network rather than attaching it directly to the computer. In addition, multiple computers or terminals can access the serial devices.
With the SD-300 and SD-310AN, virtually any networked client device can remotely control and monitor serial devices including computers (Windows, Mac, Linux), mobile devices (Android, iOS), and virtual servers (VMware, Citrix, Microsoft Terminal Server and Hyper-V). The products are based on a field-proven and mature embedded platform, the Silex SX-580, an intelligent networking modules designed into numerous medical and industrial devices. Thousands of customers throughout the world successfully use the same core technology in a variety of secure, reliable enterprise networks.
Serial Port and Network Modes Bring Flexibility
Three serial port modes inherent to the devices bring maximum flexibility for any environment. With Serial Port Emulation Mode, the included Silex SX-Virtual Link software precisely emulates a serial port (or COM port) connection on a computer operating system, and then redirects the packets over the network to the serial port of the SD-300/SD-310AN. Raw TCP Connection Mode makes it possible to possible to directly communicate with a serial device via TCP application programs using a TCP socket API. In eCable Mode, engineers can tunnel serial data over the network between devices connected to SD-300/SD-310AN.
The SD-300 and SD-310AN are equipped with an autosensing 10/100 Ethernet port for Wired Mode network connections. In addition, the SD-310AN can connect to an existing 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi network for a Wireless Station (Client) Mode. The dual band capability and enterprise security ensure a stable connection to even the most advanced wireless networks. Finally, the SD-310AN can create a wireless network so any wireless client (station) can easily make a direct secure connection with the Wireless Access Point Mode.
- Multiple serial port and wireless modes for maximum flexibility for any environment
- The wireless model includes industry-leading security including WPA, WPA2, and WEP, plus 802.1x authentication with the most commonly used EAP types
- No special drivers or applications needed to use the serial devices – drivers and applications that worked when the serial device was directly connected to the computer will continue to work across the network connected to the SD-300/SD-310AN
Pricing and Availability
The Silex SD-300 and SD-310AN will both be available in July 2015. MSRP for SD-300 is $149, and SD-310AN is $249. For more information, contact our networking experts at firstname.lastname@example.org.
