Q. What are the supported printers?
A. The PRICOM 7000 is loaded with one parallel interface (IEE1284 compliant) and two USB ports (USB 2.0 A type). You can connect any printers with these compliant ports to the PRICOM 7000.

Q. What are the supported scanners?
A. The PRICOM 7000 is loaded with two physical USB ports (USB 2.0 A type), which allows you to connect a USB 2.0 compliant scanner.

Note) If you use USB 2.0 hub with the PRICOM 7000, you can connect only USB 2.0 devices through the USB 2.0 hub. You cannot use a USB 2.0 hub for any USB 1.1 devices connection with PRICOM 7000.

Q. What are the supported OS and protocols?
A. Supported OS: Windows 95/98/Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, UNIX/Linux
The PRICOM supports TCP/IP protocol and enables you to print by LPD or FTP. Additionally, other protocols such as TELNET, SNMP or HTTP are supported.

- Supported OS for scanner server -
Supported OS: Windows 2000, Windows XP
The PRICOM USB utility for Windows 2000/XP is bundled. With this utility, you can connect the PRICOM to a scanner in Windows 2000/XP.

Q. What are the supported network I/F?
A. - Network Interface -
Supported I/F: 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX
The PRICOM automatically detects the network interface. In this case, the 100BASE-TX connection is prioritized. However, if the hub connected can only support 10BASE-T, then the PRICOM operates automatically at 10BASE-T speed.

- Device Interface -
The PRICOM can manage up to five locally connected printers with a hub and one scanner.

Note) If yo use USB 2.0 hub, connect the USB 2.0 devices. You cannot use a USB 2.0 hub for any USB 1.1 device connection with PRICOM 7000.

Q. Can a print job be sent to the printer from multiple clients simultaneously?
A. The PRICOM can receive simultaneously print job from multiple clients in the same or different network operating systems.

Q. Can spooled print jobs be managed remotely?
A. You can manage the spooled print jobs in the PRICOM 7000 via the web browser. The PRICOM 7000 allows you to delete, redirect print jobs to a different printer or change the print job queue order.

Note) This function is available only between the same model priters or printers that support the same driver.

Q. Can I print a job over a router?
A. The PRICOM 7000 can be used over different segments via a router.
* You need to configure an IP address of the destination router in [GatewayAddress].

Q. Is the PRICOM 7000 compatible with Macintosh environment?
A. The PRICOM 7000 is not embedded with AppleTalk and is not supported in Macintosh environment.
* The PRICOM 7000 series can be configured in Macintosh environment if you use the dedicated configuration utility.

Q. What is the scanner server function?
A. You can share a USB 2.0 compliant scanner through the PRICOM 7000 over the network in Windows 2000 or XP. The scanned data can be sent to your PC via thr network with the PRICOM-USB utility.

Q. How may printers can be connected to the PRICOM 7000?
A. The PRICOM 7000 has one parallel port and two USB 2.0 ports and can manage up to five locally connected printers. To physically connect more than three printers to the PRICOM 7000, you need to connect an USB hub to one of the PRICOM USB 2.0 port.

Note) If you use USB 2.0 hub with the PRICOM 7000, you can connect only USB 2.0 devices through the USB 2.0 hub. You cannot use a USB 2.0 hub for any USB 1.1 devices connection with PRICOM 7000.

Q. Are there any limitations on executing the broadcast print to the multiple printers connected to the PRICOM 7000?
A. This function is available only between the same model pritners or the printer that support a same printer driver. If the targeted pritner are not of the same model, you may not be able to print correctly.

Q. Are there any limitations on using the DHCP/DNS server function?
A. There are some limitations on the DHCP automatic assignment of the static IP address or the DNS domain name management. You can manage up tp 20 network clients' for the configuration with the PRICOM 7000.
* There is no limitation for the automatic IP address assignment (dynamic IP address only)

Q. How much memory is built in the PRICOM 7000?
A. The PRICOM has a 256MB memory built in to allow high-speed printing.

Q. What is the appliance server?
A. The appliance server is intended to consolidate the limited and required functions off a conventional PC server in order to enable easier use of the capabilities. The PRICOM 7000 is loarded with print server function, USB scanner server function and DHCP/DNS server functions. If you use a USB hub, you can connect up to five locally connected printers-one parallel and four USB to the network. Additionally, the PRICOM 7000 is loaded with the fuinctionalities allowing you to direct a print job to multiple printers (broadcast printing) or manage spooled print jobs.

Q. Are the required cables bundled in the package?
A. Any cables such as a LAN cable or printer cables are not supplied with the PRICOM 7000. You need to purchase a LAN cable (category 5) and a printer cable (parallel and/or USB) separately.

Q. Scanner function is not supported after installing Windows XP SP2.
A. PRICOM USB Utility to share a scanner may be blocked by Windows firewall.
Follow the procedures below, and add the application and the port to be used in the list of exceptions.

[Add an application to the list of exceptions]
-Click "start" - "Control Panel" - "Security Center," and activate "Windows Firewall."
-Select the "Exceptions" tab, and click "Add Program." Select "PRICOM USB Utility" from the list, and click "OK."

[Add a port to be used to the list of exceptions]
-Select "Add port" from "Exceptions" tab. Enter any name for "Name."
-Enter "19540" for "Port number."
-Select "UDP," and click OK. The procedure to add the port to the list of exceptions is now complete.

Q. The devices in another network segment (beyond a router) cannot be searched when the operating system is updated to Windows XP SP2.
A. Windows XP SP2 firewall function may disable the communication to another segment (beyond a router).
Disable the firewall function when searching the device in another segment.

How to disable the firewall function
-Click "start" - "Control Panel" - "Security Center," and activate "Windows Firewall."
-Select "Off (not recommended)" from the "General" tab, and click "OK."

Enable the firewall function after searching a device.

Q. PRICOM cannot be initially configured in Windows XP SP2 environment.
A. Target PRICOM may not be searched by the configuration utility for initial configuration.
Windows XP SP2 firewall function may disable the communication to search the target PRICOM.
Disable the firewall function only when configuring the PRICOM.

How to disable the firewall function
-Click "start" - "Control Panel" - "Security Center," and activate "Windows Firewall."
-Select "Off (not recommended)" from the "General" tab, and click "OK."

* Change the firewall configuration to "On (recommended)" after searching the PRICOM.

A. ThinPrint provides optimized network bandwidth in a Server Based Computing environment by using printing data compression/decompression technology between the server and ThinPrint enabled printer.
