Perform Initial Configuration Using the Web Browser

This page explains how to perform the initial configuration from the Web browser by connecting wiDock and computer via the network cable. 


  • We recommend a Web browser to show below.
    Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher
    Netscape Navigator 7.1 or higher
    Firefox 1.5 or higher
    Safari 1.0.3 or higher
  • The following explanation is an example when using Internet Explorer in a Windows XP environment.
    Display may vary depending on the Web browser.
  • Please use the AC adapter bundled with wiDock. Other AC adapters may cause unexpected damages.
  • If wiDock has been used in another network, reset it to the factory default settings before you start the configuration. (Please refer to "Reset to Factory Default " for details.)
  • If enabling the Windows XP embedded firewall function or using a firewall function of commercial security software, disable the firewall function while configuring wiDock. Refer to our support FAQ page on our WEB site at ( http://www.silex.jp/ ) for details.

  1. < For Windows >
    Click Start - Control Panel - Network and Internet Connections - Windows Firewall - Exceptions tab. Check the File and Printer Sharing checkbox.


    • This process is needed to enable connecting wiDock and PC by pushing the Link button on wiDock.
    • When you use Control Panel in the Classic View, double-click "Windows Firewall" and perform the same setting.


    < For Macintosh >
    Click Apple Menu - System Preferences - Sharing - Services tab. Check the Windows Sharing check box.


    • This process is needed to enable connecting wiDock and computer by pushing the Link button on wiDock.
  2. < For both Windows and Macintosh >
    Connect the include crossover network cable to wiDock and the other end of the cable to the Ethernet port of your computer.


    • Please do not place iPod on wiDock yet as iPod is not used for configuration.
  3. Connect the AC adapter to wiDock, and plug the AC plug to the electric outlet.

  4. Verify that the Operation LED turns on and then starts to blink slowly.


  5. Push and hold the link button locate on the top of the unit for 3 seconds and release it when the operation LED starts to flash rapidty (0.1 second intervals).

  6. The Operation LED will blink slowly (2 sec interval) and wiDock will start in Configuration Mode.


    • Please disable the wireless network settings if it is enabled at the computer.
  7. Open a Web browser (refer to the above for the recommended browser) from the computer.

  8. Before configuring wiDock, user name and password are required.
    When the screen below is displayed, type a user name (root) and password, then click OK. ( No password is configured on factory default settings. )

    • If the password entry screen is not displayed, enter "silex" into the address bar of the Web browser and press the Enter key.
  9. The configration page is displayed. 
    Configure the settings to use TCP/IP appropriate for your environment.


    <<Assign an IP address automatically >>
    Select Get IP Address Automatically and click Next

    << Assign an IP address manually >>
    Select Assign IP Address and enter the designated IP address and click Next.

    • The IP address used in the above screen is a sample address. Please specify an IP address appropriate to your environment.
    • Enter Subnet Mask and Default Gateway as appropriate.
  10. When you will use wiDock in the wireless network, select the wireless network that you wish to use from the list, enter the wireless network key and click Next.


    • If the wireless network, you wish to use is not shown in the list, click Detailed Configuration and configure each setting.
    • If you are going to use wiDock on a wired network upon completing the configuration, you do not have to select a wireless network from the list. Click Next.

    • Please refer to the following information to configure the wireless network setting at Detailed Configuration.

      < Communicate via an access point >
      Wireless Mode Select Infra.
      SSID Enter the same SSID as the access point.
      When encrypting communication using WEP
      Network Authentication Select Open.
      (If the access point is set to use the Pre-Shared key, select Shared)
      Use WEP Select ON.
      Key Size Set the same WEP key size as the access point (64bit/128bit).
      To enter a WEP key by a string, select 64bit (ASCII) or 128bit (ASCII).
      To enter a WEP key by a number, select 64bit (hexadecimal) or 128bit (hexadecimal).
      WEP Key Enter the same WEP key as the access point.
      Key Index Select the same Key index as the access point.
      When encrypting communication using WPA
      Network Authentication Select WPA.
      Encryption Mode Select the same encryption mode as the access point (TKIP / AES).
      Pre-Shared Key Enter the same Pre-Shared key as the access point.
      When encrypting communication using WPA2
      Network Authentication Select WPA2.
      Pre-Shared Key Enter the same Pre-Shared Key as the access point.
      When using no encryption
      Network Authentication Select Open.
      Use WEP Select OFF.

      < Communicate directly with PC >
      Wireless Mode Select AdHoc.
      SSID Enter the same SSID as the communication device.
      Channel Enter the same channel as the communication device.
      When encrypting communication
      Network Authentication Select Open.
      Use WEP Select ON.
      Key Size Enter the same WEP key size as the communication device (64bit/128bit).
      To enter a WEP key by a string, select 64bit (ASCII) or 128bit (ASCII).
      To enter a WEP key by a number, select 64bit (hexadecimal) or 128bit (hexadecimal).
      WEP Key Enter the same WEP key as the communication device.
      Key Index Select the same Key index as the communication device.
      When using no encryption
      Network Authentication Select Open.
      Use WEP Select OFF.

  11. Specify the computer to be linked when the Link button is pushed, and click Submit


    • When you specified the destination computer in the Computer to link field, please perform the process described in 1 at the computer you have specified once again.
  12. The settings will be updated and wiDock will automatically reboot. Check if wiDock runs in "Play Mode". (When wiDock runs in Play Mode, the Operation LED flashes slowly.)


  13. Unplug the AC power adpapter from the electrical outlet and then unplug the network cable. 

    • When you will use wiDock on a wired network upon completing the configuration, connect wiDock to an Ethernet Hub, Switch, or Router using a commercially available network cable (straight cable) after unplugging the network cable that came with wiDock. (The network cable that came with wiDock cannot be used for connecting wiDock to an Ethernet Hub, Switch, or Router as it is a crossover network cable.)
  14. Unplug the AC power adapter from the electrical outlet.


  15. Check for successful configuration by looking at the LED (Green/Orange) on the back of wiDock.

    Communicating with a wired LAN. Green : ON
    Orange : Blinks during data transmission
    Connecting with AP and communicating in Infrastructure mode. Green : Blink
    Orange : ON
    Communicating in Ad hoc mode. Green and Orange blinks alternatively

Configuration is complete.
